I have approximately three paper towels left in my house -- individual sheets, not rolls. I decided some time ago that when this roll was gone, I would buy no more: be gone, paper trash! Every time I grab a sheet, then, I've been evaluating what I'm using it for, and what cloth product (or, in the case of washing mirrors, newspaper) would work in its place. I'm pretty sure I've come up with a solution for every paper-towel usage except one: placing meat (bacon and sausage in particular) on paper-towel-lined plates to drain. I don't make either one very often, but it's an occasional treat that I don't want to give up, and I just can't see me laying slices of bacon on a dishtowel. What's a girl to do?!
(Seriously: I'm open to any suggestions.)

I went to a pampered chef party where she told us to do it in the oven (on their stoneware stuff, though). I forget how to do it exactly - and it takes a lot longer. I want to say 350, 15 min, flip, then 15 more minutes? I had it stick to a regular pan, but do okay on my stoneware. But the pan it stuck to, I always had problems with and have since gotten rid of it.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid as someone who does not really use paper towels, that is one thing I still feel like i need them for. What if you set them on a cookie rack over a plate. Allows for drips and easy to stick in the dishwasher.
